The North House Folk School, located in Minnesota, is an organization that teaches traditional northern crafts in a student-centered learning environment that inspires the hands, the heart and the mind of artisans around the world.

Gary and Joanie McGuffin will be “Featured Speakers” at the Northern Landscapes Festival in Grand Marais where they’ll be presenting their film “Painted Land: In Search of the Group of Seven”. This film will be a perfect compliment to the festival which focuses on the rich Northern landscape, wildlife, flora, and geology of the region.

The McGuffins are very excited to be returning to North House Folk School. They are past symposium presenters as well as NHFS alumni having enjoyed a two-week course building traditional Greenlandic kayaks which appear in a section of their book Paddle Your Own Kayak.  A December 2015 Article in Grand Marais’s Northern Wilds Magazine describes the making of the film Painted Land. https://themcguffins.ca/in-artists-footsteps-article-by-northern-wilds-magazine/)
